Episcopal ushers and greeters serve as a vital ministry of hospitality, providing a warm, welcoming, and safe environment for parishioners and newcomers. They typically greet attendees at the door, distribute service bulletins, assist with seating, manage the offering, direct the flow of communion, and tidy the pews after services.
Key Responsibilities of Ushers & Greeters
Welcoming: Serving as the first point of contact, offering a friendly, Christian welcome to all who enter.
Service Assistance: Handing out bulletins or service leaflets.
Seating: Assisting with seating during crowded services, ensuring newcomers find space, and ensuring safety.
Offering: Gathering the monetary offering and presenting the gifts (bread and wine) at the altar.
Communion Management: Directing the flow of people to and from the altar during communion.
Logistics & Clean-up: Counting attendees for records, and tidying up the nave (pews, prayer books, hymnals) after the service.
