Acolytes at Emmanuel are lay ministers—often youth, but also adults—who assist clergy during worship by carrying torches, the cross (crucifer), incense (thurifer), or banners, and helping at the altar during the Eucharist.
Core Roles and Responsibilities
Crucifer: Carries the processional cross.
Torch Bearer: Carries candles, symbolizing bringing Christ's light into the world.
Server: Assists the priest with setting the altar, holding the Gospel book, or serving as a thurifer (managing incense).
Duties: Lighting/extinguishing altar candles, ringing the Sanctus bells, and assisting in the movement of liturgical items
